Class 3A eighth ranked PCM was a 10-2 Region 2 first round softball winner in Monroe last night vs. the Greene County Rams. The contest was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Mustangs are 22-5 and advance to the semifinals while the Rams end with a 4-20 record and 11 straight losses. The Rams lost all three meetings with the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference champions, PCM.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s team trailed by just a 5-2 score after 4-1/2 innings before the Mustangs scored three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to widen the lead. PCM had eight hits to five for the Rams and Greene County was charged with three errors and the Mustangs had two.

All five hits for the Rams were singles with all the hits by freshmen. Alaina Heard and Sara Morlan had two hits with one for Makenna Ebersole.

Heard pitched all six innings and allowed seven earned runs. She walked six batters, hit two with pitches, and fanned six.

Two PCM pitches combined to strike the Rams out six times with Rylee Parsons going the first three innings and Cameron Webb throwing the last four.

The Rams have no seniors on the team and played shorthanded due to injuries and other issues, causing the coaching staff to alter the batting order and the defensive alignment.
