Friday brings the first night of grandstand entertainment to the Greene County Fair, along with several other activities.
The sheep show happens in the show ring at 8am, followed by the beef pen of three judging at 9am, and the herdbuilder judging at 10am, which both take place in the beef pen of three barn. Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says this year is the most entries there has been for beef pen of three and herdbuilder.
“We’re really excited to use this facility, essentially how it was designed in the plans when they built that new pen of three barn. So last year we had ten herdbuilder/pen of three entries, this year we have 17. So only ten pens fit on one side. So on that southside of the pen, we’ll have ten pens, then on the north side, we’ll have an additional seven pens. And that’s originally how that barn was designed so we could handle that overflow, and we’re really excited to be filling the barns this year and using that barn how it was built to be used.”
Then in the afternoon is the pet show in Clover Hall at 2pm, along with mud tug of war at 3pm and the 4-H fashion show at 5pm in Clover Hall. The barbecue beef meal will be served at 5:30pm in the North Hall with the Town and Country Band performing. The mechanical bull returns near the grandstand from 5-8:30pm and the grandstand entertainment will be the Wright County Rodeo at 7pm, followed by fireworks. Greene County Fair Board Vice President Katlynn Mechaelsen says last year’s rodeo was another success.
“We really enjoyed ourselves. It was really fun to watch the broncos and the barrel races. They did calf-roping and then of course the bulls at the end of the night. So it was fun and all of the kids just, you know, you really come out for the kids to let them enjoy watching the cowboys get up there, so we’re really excited for them to come back.”
Admission for the rodeo is $10 per person for individuals three and older, which also includes the fireworks at the end of the night. Additionally, Raccoon Valley Radio is broadcasting live from 10am-6pm through Saturday and 10am-3pm on Sunday.
