
Perry closed out the regular season with a wild 8-7 win over Carroll Tuesday night at Progressive Field. The Bluejays will bring a little momentum into Friday night’s postseason opener at Grinnell after closing the year with two straight wins.
The Bluejays never trailed jumping out to a 4-0 lead through the first three innings. Egan Leber and Drake Levan provided RBI’s in a three-run second while Mason Hayes added a RBI double in the third. Both innings were started with Kain Killmer doubles. The senior finished with four hits.
Carroll fought back in the top of the fourth inning scoring three runs off a Landon Peterson double and Jackson Gross two-run single. Perry starter Owen Myers was lifted from the game in the third inning after hitting his 42 pitch max which keeps him eligible for a full 110 pitches Friday night in the district opener.
Perry responded in their half of the fourth inning scoring four times off of three hits on reliever Talon Crandell. Killmer’s third double of the game cleared the bases and gave Perry a 7-3 lead. Juan Diego Beato added an RBI groundball to push it to 8-3.
The Tigers battled back in the fifth inning off reliever Kaelan Davis. Tate Schliesman, Ryan North and Carter Essick started the inning with three consecutive singles setting up a key moment in the game. Stone Sibenaller followed with a fly ball to center field that turned out to be a double play when Geren Kenney caught it and threw a strike home, nailing the tagging runner Schliesman. The Tigers continued to put the heat on as Landon Peterson and Braxton Lu reached following a walk and a hit batter to load the bases for the second time in the inning. Jake Jorgensen delivered a three-run triple to cut the lead to 8-7, chasing Davis from the mound. Kenney relieved Davis and enticed a Gross pop up to get out of the jam.
Kenney finished the game on the mound, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win. Hayes finished with a pair of hits while Drake Levan enjoyed a solid night at shortstop with four assists and 3 putouts including a double play to end the game.
Perry closes out the regular season 11-17 while Carroll finishes 8-18. Perry heads to Grinnell Friday night for a 7:00 substate 7 battle while Carroll travels to Harlan.
