University of Iowa wrestler Kale Petersen, a 2023 Greene County High School graduate, praised his high school coaches in a conversation aired July 1 as a part of the PM Sports Magazine KG98 Edition. Petersen is rehabbing after early February knee surgery to repair two knee ligaments torn while wrestling.

A longtime wrestler at Sebolt Wrestling Academy, he moved in with the TJ Sebolt family after the Academy moved to Jefferson. Petersen wrestled his first two years of high school for West Fork (Sheffield), winning one State title there, and his last two for Greene County, where he won two State titles and never lost a match for the Rams.

Petersen told Raccoon Valley Radio he appreciates Sebolt, and the Ram coaching staff for helping him get to the Hawkeyes’ wrestling room under head coach Tom Brands and assistant coach Terry Brands. “Coach (Zach) Beekman, Coach (Kirk) Davis, Coach (Chris) Conner, those are my guys!” he said of the Greene County coaches.
