The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball team beat Gilbert 9-5 on Monday night to win their ninth straight to celebrate Senior night.

The Tigers began by honoring five seniors on the team: Kaylee Smith, Cameran Smith, Aubrey Winter, Aleah Johnson, and Olivia Wyant. ADM led 1-0 after the first following a solo home run from Lauren Hagedorn. The Tigers used a big second inning to bring in seven runs to make it 8-0, then tallied one more in the fifth. Gilbert battled back by scoring three in the fourth and two in the fifth innings, as ADM went onto win 9-5. Senior Aleah Johnson reflected on her high school career.

“It felt good to just realize that this has happened for four years I’ve been out here, so it felt good to finally have that time of me being a senior and each year is a brand new set of girls, which that’s always fun.”

The ADM Tigers had 12 hits, one error, and left three on base. For Gilbert, they had five hits, two errors, and also left three runners on. ADM’s Madi James finished 3-3, scoring two runs, while C. Smith, K. Smith, Hagedorn, Lauryn Troster, Aniston Tollari, and Ellis Smith all scored one run. Gilbert’s run were scored by Tovaria Smith’s two, Zoey Jones (1), Katie Sniezek (1), and Emma Latterell (1).

Winning pitcher was ADM’s Lauren Hagedorn, who pitched six innings, allowed five hits, five runs, walked one batter, and struck out 13. Gilbert’s Clara Newton went seven innings, allowed 12 hits, nine runs, walked one batter, and struck out two.

ADM is now 25-8 overall (13-2 inside the Raccoon River Conference). Tonight’s softball game against North Polk has been postponed to next Wednesday, July 10th in Alleman at 7pm.
