The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During reports, Greene County Ambulance Director Michelle Madsen said her department has been recertified with the Medicare system, in order to keep accepting payments from patients who use Medicare for their services. This must be done every five years to maintain compliance.
County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed the Board about a new law that went into effect on July 1st. He said as of July 1st, he interpreted that County Compensation Boards, the entity that determines if there are increases and how much to increase an elected county official salary, are no longer in existence. Laehn recommended to the Board that if they want to continue to have a Compensation Board, to pass a resolution to create one. He noted, otherwise, all of the salary decisions would be for the Supervisors to solely figure out.
Laehn also said an item that could be on next week’s agenda is to approve accepting the current communication tower from Midland Power Cooperative that is at the law enforcement center administrative building. It was mentioned that when Midland Power owned the property, the tower was owned by a third party. Midland has since acquired the tower and is willing to sell to the county for $1 because law enforcement uses it for communications and will continue to use it to send and receive microwave communications from the new emergency tower at Seven Hills Park.
County Environmental Administrator Chuck Wenthold reported that the Iowa Utilities Board approved the permit for Summit Carbon Solution to construct its underground pipeline to capture liquid carbon dioxide from ethanol plants and send it to an underground storage facility in North Dakota. He stated there were some caveats the IUB put in place, but that Summit could use eminent domain for any remaining parcels that have yet to reach a negotiated agreement to use their easement for the pipeline.
The Board then approved a retirement resolution for Deputy County Recorder Maralie Ruth for her 25 years of service to the county. The Board also approved the June 28th cash count as presented. Finally, the Board approved an amendment with the design agreement with BBS Architects and engineering for the HVAC project at the Greene County Courthouse for $52,568 for additional expenses.
