Monday night in non-conference softball in Jefferson, Greene County hosted Hawkeye 10 Conference member Denison-Schleswig. The Monarchs won by a 9-2 score to improve to 12-15 on the season while the Rams fell to 4-18 with a ninth straight loss.

Freshman Alaina Heard took the pitching loss, going all seven innings. She allowed eight earned runs on five hits, seven walks, and one batter hit with a pitch, while striking out seven. All five D-S hits were singles.

The Rams had 10 hits, all singles, with two each for a trio of freshmen in Heard, Sara Morlan, and Alivya Smith. Picking up one hit were juniors Payton Kokenge and Violet Reedy, along with sophomores Kaycee Pittman and Addison Gannon. Heard had the lone RBI for the Rams. Greene County drew just one walk while striking out nine times.

Greene County is scheduled to play one varsity game tonight in Manson vs. Manson-Northwest Webster at 7 o’clock, weather permitting. That was postponed two weeks ago, and wasn’t going to be made up, but it’s back on the schedule for tonight.
