The Greene County School Board approved adding a couple of advisory positions to its extra curricular pay schedule.

At their regular meeting in June, the Board approved a middle school student council sponsor and a Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) sponsor to its Part B Schedule, which is the same account that coaches are paid through. The middle school student council advisors are Kristin Wright and Kim Braun, while the FCCLA advisor is Lisa Garnett.

Superintendent Brett Abbotts gives his thoughts on bringing back the student council at the middle school for the first time in a while this last school year.

“We thought it was a great way to get students involved from a student leadership perspective and they’ve been doing a lot of work, both Kristin and Kim have been doing a lot of work already with students in the student council. We thought it was a really great segway before they head into high school to get that experience at the middle school level.”

Abbotts notes that the Board also felt that the work being done outside of a school day warranted an additional stipend for the FCCLA advisor position. Each of these advisors are paid with units, which equals $617 per unit. Wright and Braun are splitting the four units that the Board approved, while Garnett is being paid for five units. These new pay schedules go into effect for the 2024-25 school year.
