Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity is underway with its construction season and they are looking for more projects in Greene County.

Director Ron Christensen tells Raccoon Valley Radio that volunteers are helping with a $5,000 exterior home project for a resident in Jefferson. He says the repairs include a new attic vent, new exterior doors and installing an accessible handicap ramp. Christensen appreciates the Greene County Board of Supervisors for their financial support for their organization and adds there is more funding available for additional Helping Hands projects.

“We also have received a $30,000 grant from John Deere this year, that we would like to spend some of that money in Greene County as well.”

Christensen reminds everyone that Helping Hands projects are repairs or replacements to the exteriors of owner-occupied homes in Greene County. He notes that while most repairs and replacements qualify for Habitat, the median family income to be eligible is 30-60 percent of Greene County incomes. To apply, contact Christensen either via email at director@heartofiowahabitat.org, call 515-432-1168 or check out the website at heartofiowahabitat.com.
