The Greene County School Board is in the investigation and information gathering stage when it comes developing a capital improvement plan for all facilities.

An update was given at the June School Board meeting about an organization called the DLR Group having a workshop with the Board to go over what they would do to create a capital improvement plan. Superintendent Brett Abbotts says over the next few months, the DLR Group will conduct focus groups with students, staff, board members and the public to establish a “wish and desire” list for the district, as well as plan out a capital improvement plan.

“And when I say ‘improvements’ it’s more on the maintain side. We’re not necessarily talking about like putting on additions to the school or anything like that. But we’re really thinking about, ‘How do we continually keep our schools warm, safe and dry?’ ‘How do we ensure that all of our systems are working as they should?’ ‘When do we have to replace, or repair, or update some of the equipment that we have?’ And really getting us on a focused plan and schedule so that we can do things through a process or a systemic way, or what I call the ‘Oh, by the ways.’”

Abbotts adds following the focus groups, he is looking for the DLR Group to help prioritize a list of projects and timelines, as well as giving the School Board a process of how to save the funds needed to do certain projects. He says several other school districts have used the DLR Group to do exactly what he wants to see done in the Greene County School District.
