The Greene County Historical Society is hosting a repeat guest speaker, but covering a much broader topic later this weekend.

On Sunday, Des Moines Area Community College Professor Emeritus John Liepa will be speaking on Iowa’s role in the Civil War. The free program starts at 4pm at the historical museum in Jefferson and Liepa will be presenting on several ways the Civil War impacts Iowa’s history, including bringing the game of baseball back to the Hawkeye state, which is what Liepa talked about in a previous 2018 program at the museum.

Liepa taught US and Iowa history, along with political science at DMACC for almost 40 years and now teaches at the Senior College of Greater Des Moines and at Drake University’s Osher’s Lifelong Learning Institute. This program is co-sponsored by Humanities Iowa and refreshments will be served.
