The Greene County Development Corporation Board met Tuesday in regular session.

The new Multicultural Family Resource Center Director Sarah Huddleston was introduced to the Board. She officially started on June 1st and has an office to the south of Jefferson City Hall. She is currently working with the new resettled Ukrainian individual who is also in Jefferson, as Huddleston will work with new families from all cultural backgrounds to transition to living and  working in the county and getting children registered to attend school.

During reports, Jefferson City Administrator Scott Peterson said the East Lincoln Way road resurfacing project will begin on Monday, June 17th and is anticipated to last two months. He mentioned that public input is needed for a proposal by the Iowa Department of Transportation to reduce Highway 4 through Jefferson from four to three lanes with a center turn lane. Peterson added the DOT is looking to have informational meetings this fall. 

Greene County Medical Center CEO Chad Butterfield reported that his teams and the Board of Trustees are continually looking at services that could be implemented at the medical center so that the public doesn’t have to travel outside of the county to receive certain services. 

It was also announced that Lori Mannel was promoted to the Regional Director with ISU Extension and so applications were being accepted for her replacement as the Greene County Extension Director, with the deadline of June 24th. 

Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich said Tim Heisterkamp with Journey Financial has officially purchased the former Homestead Bakery building at the corner of East Lincoln Way and Chestnut Street. 

Former Board President of The Children’s Center Jacque Andrew noted that there still is a waiting list for unborn babies, but they are four staff short of fulfilling the current waiting list of other children to be in the facility. 

Alan Robinson reported for Grand Junction that the 50107 Summerfest is August 2nd and 3rd and Dustin Fouch, owner of Fouch Agriservice is partnering with Channel Seed to bring the band Blackhawk for a Main Street concert on August 28th. 

Finally, GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton gave his report. He said the new Ukrainian now has a job at the Greene County Medical Center and is doing quite well. The new Multicultural Family Resource Center logo was unveiled to the Board and a new website for the initiative is still being developed. Paxton also mentioned that Knight Moves, a military-style training company with Linc Kroeger is being looked at as a possible tenant for the former Forge in downtown Jefferson.
