kamden-kinne

A Greene County High School student is excited to go on a trip to the nation’s capital.

Kamden Kinne was selected by Midland Power Cooperative to be its representative as part of the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. Kinne wanted to take advantage of this opportunity as a “once in a lifetime trip.”

“Being able to take a trip to (Washington) DC is something that not a lot of people have an opportunity to do. And it’d be kind of fun to work with other students from across the nation and be able to tell them like a lot about Iowa, be able to learn a little bit more from everybody else, and I’m a big believer in that everyone has a story to tell. I’d be very interested to talk to other people about this.”

Kinne will be joining 39 other high school students from across Iowa that will be with hundreds of other students from all over the country for a week-long trip. They will get to see the different monuments and memorials, along with learning about electric cooperatives, American history and interact with some of Iowa’s delegation on Capitol Hill. He appreciates Midland Power for having this kind of experience available for high school students to apply.

“I mean it’s obviously a very, very awesome opportunity. I’m very, very thankful that they gave me this (opportunity). And the best part is they (Midland Power) didn’t just choose me, they’re allowing anyone to apply for this. This is not something that is required to do, this is something that everyone (who applies) has a chance (to be selected). And it’s a very great opportunity, very, very thankful; and I think it’s pretty cool.”

The trip is from June 15th through the 23rd. According to Midland Power Cooperative’s website, applications for next year will open this December, where Midland will choose one student to sponsor from its service territory.
