A Northwest Iowa man has been taken into custody for allegedly trying to burn down his family’s home in Perry on Monday.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Marcus Allen During, of Rock Rapids, allegedly started a fire at his sister’s residence in Perry Monday afternoon around 4:15pm. The documents state that During was messing around with the fire hose on his sister’s porch and when his sister emerged from the house to monitor the situation, she noticed flames on her back porch. During’s sister told officers that he came to the residence on Sunday and broke several windows.

Court documents mention that During resisted arrest from the Perry Police Department and had a medical episode while being transferred to the Dallas County Jail, and was quickly diverted to the Dallas County Hospital. A Perry Police Officer noted that During told them that he threatened the family by saying, “I want you all to burn in hell,” and also threatened officers. The documents detail that two adults and one minor were in the house at the time of the alleged arson attempt.

During was arrested on three counts of attempted murder, two counts of first degree harassment, fourth degree criminal mischief, and first degree arson. During is being held at the Dallas County Jail without bond. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring more information as it becomes official.
