A representative from the Dallas County Hospital sheds light on appropriate measures to take regarding CPR.
Education Coordinator Chelsea Reis tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it’s important for people to learn CPR in case of an emergency. She says if a person needs immediate attention, then encourages people to start the process of CPR and potentially have someone else access a nearby public automated external defibrillator (AED) as it will give you directions on next steps. Reis describes that chest compressions are the best method for delivering CPR to another person.
“The most important thing is circulating that blood through because you have oxygen in your blood already. We like to say it’s about 100 to 120 compressions per minute, so what I (Reis) always do is that Staying Alive song, kind of that beat to that song is very important and that will actually guide your compressions.”
Reis details the first course of action when someone needs medical attention is to check on the person to see if there’s an active pulse, call 911 for medical assistance, then to begin the process of CPR.
