Coach Tom Kennedy’s Greene County High School softball team won 7-5 on Monday night at home in Jefferson vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams improved to 4-9 overall and 3-6 in conference game and they completed the two game sweep vs, the Hawks this season.
Freshman pitcher Alaina Heard picked up the victory by going all seven innings. She gave up two earned runs, seven hits and four walks while not hitting anyone with a pitch. Heard recorded five strikeouts and Greene County had three errors. The Rams had ten hits with two singles by junior Payton Kokenge and two bunt singles by sophomore Kaycee Pittman. Freshmen Heard, Bellah Johnson, and Sara Morlan each doubled and drove in a run. Freshman Alivya Smith doubled and singled, and junior Violet Reedy added a base hit.
The Rams led from start to finish with three runs in the first inning, two in the fourth, and two more in the fifth. The Hawks scored three times in he fifth inning sna twice more in the seventh.
Greene County plays on Wednesday in Jefferson on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com vs. Roland-Story (Story City) at 7:30 p.m.
