all-dogs-must-be-kept-on-a-leash

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn offers a friendly reminder to pet owners about animals roaming free around the community.

Vaughn tells Raccoon Valley Radio that dogs and cats need to be controlled within a homeowner’s vicinity. He specifically points out that the animals need to be restricted by a fence, a leash, or some barrier to prevent them from getting loose. Vaughn encourages people to put tags on their animals when they are outside in the front yard.

“Make sure that they do have tags on them, so we can get them back to you if they do wander onto somebody’s else’s property, or they get away from you, we can return them to you. It’s a little bit cheaper than sending them out to the dog-pound and putting them in jail for a little while, and you have to go pick them up.”

Vaughn notes that homeowners can help pets out by putting the contact information on the collars to make it easier to return to their rightful owners, and suggest that owners keep the animals on leashes when going out for walks.
