Free meals are being offered to children and youth thanks to a local school in Dallas County.

The Perry Community School District is providing free meals to children and youth ages 1-18 until early August. Perry Schools’ Director of Nutrition Meladee Steele tells Raccoon Valley Radio that during the month of June, breakfast and lunch will be served at both Perry Elementary and Perry High School. She indicates that the amount of kids that come through for the program yearly fluctuates.

“It’s kind of hard to estimate, but usually at the elementary we have about 250 to 300 (kids) on the average. High school, it’s really hard to say, it’s more at the elementary (school) that we get kids.”

Steele notes that Perry Elementary will be open Monday through Friday now until August 2nd, with no meals on July 4th or 5th. The high school will be available Monday through Thursday until June 27th. Both locations will serve breakfast from 7:30-8:30am and lunch from 11:30am-12:30pm.
