A pair of thunderstorms came across a portion of Greene County Tuesday evening and brought with it some hail.

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team interrupted regular programming around 4:45pm on KGRA 98.9FM when the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Greene County until 5:30pm. Only heavy rainfall that was reported by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office was the lone hazard.

However, it was the second severe thunderstorm warning issued by the National Weather Service around 5:45pm for the same area, northeastern Greene County, that hail was reported. A report by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office was quarter-sized hail found east of Dana and pea to dime-sized hail was in the city of Paton. There were no immediate reports of damage following the storm that also had heavy rainfall and about 30-40 miles per hour wind. The warning expired about 6:25pm.

Three RVR staff, along with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Weatherology Meteorologists assisted in the live coverage of the two thunderstorms. Anytime there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning issued for Greene, Dallas or Guthrie counties, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team will bring live coverage until the storms move out of the area or drop below severe levels.
