Stuart Police Department Community Programs is getting their summer programming started this week.
According to Stuart Police Sergeant Katie Guisinger, the first event on the agenda is the first Summer Youth Program event. She mentions that this is the first of four total youth program events, and the first of two at Springbrook State Park. Guisinger tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Iowa Department of Natural Resources Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan does a lot to help with the two visits to Springbrook.
“The first camp is kind of water based. Kayaking, fishing, creek exploration. The second camp is kind of land based, so we’re also kind of doing some different kinds of hiking, and she’s got some animal programs and some insect programs. So I think those are really good experiences for the kids.”
Guisinger mentions that the first camp is on Thursday, and the second is next week on June 11th. She adds that on Friday, it is National Donut Day, a day that as a police officer, she loves to embrace the stereotype. Guisinger explains that the department will be at The Cup on 2nd in Stuart from 6:30-9am, where those who come in can get a free donut while supplies last, and be entered for a chance to win a mini donut maker with a recipe book.
