There are many programs in Dallas County set for Monday in relation to Memorial Day.

The Dallas County Conservation Board is inviting people to their “Incredible Minerals” program tomorrow from 1:30-2:30pm at Forest Park Museum in Perry. Conservation Museum Curator Pete Malmberg tells Raccoon Valley Radio that people can expect to see a good variety of minerals during the program.

“The classics like the copper ores and the calcites and the fluorites and the quartz and just displaying those and explaining a little bit about them.”

Malmberg says following the hour-long program, visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions about the minerals. Once again, the program will be held tomorrow at the Forest Park Museum in Perry at 1:30pm.

Other Memorial Day programs that will take place on Monday include The Adel American Legion Penoach Post 464 and Auxiliary Unit 464 holding the Adel Memorial Day Ceremony at the Oakdale Cemetery at 9am. Also, the Minburn American Legion will be honoring veterans at four locations: Brown Cemetery at 9:30am, Kimrey Cemetery at 10am, the Elmwood Cemetery at 10:30am, with the Raccoon River Bridge Ceremony to follow. The legion announces that a hot dog/chili dog lunch will be served at the Skating Rink Food Stand until 1pm with free donations accepted going towards the Minburn Fourth of July celebration.

Lastly, the Dallas Center American Legion and Auxiliary is recognizing veterans on Monday at 10am at Mound Park in Dallas Center. The organization encourages people to bring lawn chairs and notes the program will be canceled if there’s inclement weather in the area.
