Tomorrow several bicyclists will be traveling around eastern Greene County and one local law enforcement official is reminding motorists to use additional caution.
Bike Ride Around Greene County (BRAG) will take participants on a 36 mile loop that starts and ends in Jefferson, along with additional stops at Lakeside National Golf Club, 209 Main, 30 Yard Line and ending at Doc’s Stadium. Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says officers will be on hand to help get the bicyclists safely out of town at the beginning.
“That first initial few miles is probably the most dangerous for them because they’re all grouped up and somebody comes out to go around them, it’s going to take you a while to get around that many bikers. So just pay attention for that Saturday morning.”
Clouse says a police escort will be coming from the back of the cyclists to the airport to ensure their safety when the ride begins at 9:30am tomorrow. He adds throughout the rest of the day, the cyclists will spread out from each other, but encourages motorists to be vigilant if driving on Highways 30 and 144, as well as S Avenue from Highway 30 north to 130th Street into Paton and 235th Street, known as Old Highway 30.
Anyone who wants to join can register that morning, with check-ins from 8:30-9:30am. The fee is $45 and a postcard will be given to each person and if they get all of the stamps from the stops, their postcard is entered into a drawing for a free bike at Doc’s Stadium.
