The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Baseball team capped off an exhilarating comeback versus Carroll on Wednesday to earn third win of the season.
In the battle of the Tigers, it was ADM coming out victorious, winning 5-4. ADM got the early lead thanks to a leadoff triple from Senior Grant Rychnovsky that was hit in from a sacrifice fly from Junior Jaxon Book in the first inning. Carroll responded with two runs in the bottom of the first from Junior Stone Sibenaller and Senior Ryan North to take the 2-1 advantage. Carroll added another run in the second from Sophomore Trey Tassell and Sophomore Jake Jorgenson scored in the fifth to give Carroll the 4-1 lead.
The top of the sixth inning was huge for ADM as they scored four with Junior Grant Jansen, Junior Reed Ausdemore, Freshman Alex Jensen, and Sophomore Ethan Uglum, who was a courtesy runner for Freshman Jack Siefken. Carroll managed to get the first two batters on base in the bottom of the seventh inning after an error on ADM’s Siefken to allow Junior Linkin Weitl on, then a double from Tassell. The runners were on second and third base with no outs, but Jansen came in to relieve for ADM and proceeded to strike the last three batters out (Sophomore Carson Tedrow, Jorgensen, and Sibenaller) to preserve the 5-4 victory for ADM.
Starting pitcher for ADM was Siefken who pitched six innings, allowed four hits, four runs, allowed one walk, and had four strikeouts. Jansen pitched for one inning, allowed two hits, and struck out three. For Carroll, Weitl finished five innings, allowed eight hits, five runs, and struck out four while Sibenaller pitched two innings, allowed one hit, and had two strikeouts.
ADM improves to 3-5 overall (1-1 inside the Raccoon River Conference) while Carroll drops their first game of the season (0-1 overall; 0-1 RRC). ADM is on the road today in Harlan at 7pm and Carroll will play at North Polk tonight.
