Greene County experienced multiple thunderstorm and tornado warnings Tuesday.

The National Weather Service issued two tornado warnings, one for south central Greene County from 3:16-4:15pm and the other for northwestern Greene County from 3:45-4:15pm. Greene County also had three severe thunderstorm warnings for western Greene County from 3:11-4pm, northeastern Greene County from 3:47-4:15pm and eastern Greene County from 4-4:45pm. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team took to the air on KGRA 98.9FM.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reported that the severe weather sirens for Jefferson, Churdan and Scranton were activated twice during the warnings. Williams said weather spotters with the Churdan, Scranton, Jefferson, and Grand Junction Fire Departments, along with five deputies were out covering the storms. He stated there were over 70 miles per hour winds, torrential downpour of rain across the warned area, along with some pea-sized hail reported in Grand Junction. 

The National Weather Service has a tornado watch remaining in effect for Greene County until 9pm.
