It’s Greene County and Humboldt facing off tonight in a Class 2A Subsate 7 boys’ soccer semi-final. the contest is in Humboldt, but not at the high school. Instead it will be played in a park known as Humboldt Soccer Complex. Seating, restrooms, and press box facilities are limited There are also no lights at that location, so the starting time is 6 p.m., one hour earlier than at most Substate locations. Fans are directed to drive north on Highway 169 until reaching 7th Street. Turning right on 7th Street will take spectators to the park.
The two teams enter the contest with outstanding records. The Wildcats are ranked number nine and have 12-1 wins and just one loss, and that was by one goal. The Rams are 11-2 under the direction of head coach Carl Behne and assistant Chad Black and those two losses were each by one goal. Both the Wildcats and Rams are on five match winning streaks.
The highest scorers for the two teams are among the best in Class 2A. Ram senior Gesser Gutierres leads all 2A players with 48 goals, and he’s done that in only 10 contests. Humboldt’s Cristhian Ramirez has 25 goals in 13 matches. Gutierres has one more goal than the entire Humboldt team.
