The Perry School recently approved to rename Perry High School’s Athletic Court in memory of the late high school principal, Dan Marburger.
Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Marburger loved the activities that took place in the gymnasium from athletics to musicals to the graduation ceremony, which Wicks revealed was his favorite.
He shares that after having discussions with School Administrator Tom Lipovac and Athletic Director Katelyn Whelchel, they felt like the gym was an appropriate place to show appreciation for the beloved principal.
“We ended up with (calling it) ‘The Dan Marburger Court.’ With that, we will be putting his name on there, and the word ‘court’. We’re going to start working on the design and I think it’s a tribute to his legacy and his passion and his dedication to the Perry Schools.”
Marburger passed away from injuries he suffered in the January 4th school shooting. Wicks says it was a privilege to work with Marburger during his tenure as principal from 1997 to 2024. Wicks adds that the hope is to complete the redesign of the court by this fall.
