Tonight starts the postseason for the Greene County High School soccer teams. The boys are at home vs. Panorama at 7 p.m. at Linduska Field in Jefferson in a Class 2A Substate 7 quarterfinal while the girls play AHSTW in Avoca at 7 o’clock in a 1A regional opener.
Coach Carl Behne’s Rams have won their last four matches and are 10-2 overall. Senior Gesser Gutierres has 43 goals in just eight matches, which is one more goal than all of 2023 when he was Iowa’s top high school boys’ soccer scorer. The team has been stingy on defense as well with less than two goals per game allowed. The Rams have a 12-2 regular season victory in early April vs. the Panthers.
Coach Maribel Hernandez watched her team play one of their better games last Friday to end the regular season. The 2-0 loss dropped the Rams to 0-11, but it was the fewest goals allowed this season and the closest margin of victory. AHSTW has one victory this season.
