A group of 4-H’ers from Adair and Plymouth Counties have received some great recognition.

Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach County Youth Coordinator Caroline Savage says that four individuals competed in a livestock triathlon, and scored well enough that they will be representing Iowa at the national competition. She explains what the four will compete at the National 4-H Quiz Bowl and Skillathon, and explains what the competition is.

“So the skillathon, it’s hands-on activities. They practice their critical thinking, problem solving, communication skills and then they have like, a written quiz and learning stations. They have to do things such as breed identification, quality assurance, meat evaluation and other livestock skills along with that.”

Savage mentions that the individuals participating on the team include Taylor and Tucker Rohrig and Melanie Kilborn from Adair County, and Brady Allan from Plymouth County. She adds that the Extension is extremely proud of the hard work that the group has put into preparing for the competition, and wishes them the best of luck as they continue to prepare for when they head to the National 4-H Contest in Louisville, Kentucky in November.
