Several students from the Des Moines Area Community College VanKirk Center in Perry took part in a local welding contest in April.

A press release from DMACC states four students, representing four area high schools, competed in the Plumbers and Steamfitters High School State Welding Contest on April 26th in Des Moines. The competition included Shielded Metallic Arc Welding (SMAW) and Torch Cutting. 

The four welders from the Perry VanKirk Academy that participated were Kairi Hansen (Woodward-Granger), Brady Stucker (Woodward-Granger), Jarron Cook (Ogden) and Isaac Lantz (West Central Valley). The welding instructors were Jim VonBehren and Brent Rowe. DMACC offers students the opportunity to achieve academic goals, while attending tuition-free college courses.
