Rain Thursday morning stopped in time for the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference track & field coed meet to be held Thursday afternoon and evening in Jewell hosted by South Hamilton. The Greene County boys were fourth and the girls fifth among eight teams. Roland-Story (Story City) was the girls’ team champion while Nevada won the title for boys.
Greene County won a total of five events, three in the field and two on the track. The Rams swept the 800 meter run titles and both by sophomores. Kaycee Pittman won the 800 for girls in 2:28.06 and Drew Wolterman was first in the boys’ 800 in 2:03.83. In the field, junior Daniele Madsen placed first in the shot put with a best toss of 35′ 3-1/2″ and the Rams captured both discus throw titles. Junior Emma Ewalt had a best toss of 113′ 6 and junior Isaac Carman won for the second straight year. Carman’s winning distance on Thursday was 142′ 1″.
Second place finishes for the Greene County boys were from senior Jace Wilson in the shot put at 44′ 2-1/2″ and the distance medley relay in 3:51.07 with sophomore Broc Stream, senior Nathan Behne, junior Lane FIelds, and Wolterman. The girls were also second in the distance medley in 4:36.75 with sophomore Addison Gannon, senior Kaylee Stalder, sophomore Lila Osterson, and Pittman.
All that’s left on the Greene County schedule is the postseason, which begins in Manson on May 9 in a Class 2A State Qualifying Coed Meet hosted by Manson-Northwest Webster.
