If you haven’t been to the south plaza of the Greene County Courthouse grounds recently, there are some new works of art that are on display.
This year’s finalists for the Ring Out for Art contest brought their respective sculptures and they were installed. Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich shares his thoughts on the new public artwork.
“Yeah, we are really excited about a whole new crop of sculptures (and) it’ll be our tallest collection of sculptures. So you’re going to need to stop downtown and check these out. The “Reaching” sculpture it was titled, left us, which was a really fun photo opportunity. So that was a really special sculpture and that same artist I think has another sculpture this year and then three other artists have sculptures on display as well. So you’ll need to come check that out, we’re really excited.” .
Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn thanks all of the volunteers who helped install, weld and put together each of the sculptures. The People’s Choice Award voting begins at the Bell Tower Festival weekend inside the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower and will end on August 15th. The winning artist will receive $500 and that sculpture will remain on the courthouse grounds until next May, while the other sculptures will need to be removed by the end of October.
