The Greene County Conservation Department is getting to add a new position for the first time in 40 years.
Greene County Conservation Director Tanner Scheuermann tells Raccoon Valley Radio they are looking to hire a naturalist. He is really excited to have this new position and their primary responsibility is to conduct environmental and educational programs. Scheuermann notes that doing more programs has been the top request from the public since becoming the county conservation director almost three years ago.
“Especially this time of year, typically we’re really busy from when the camping season starts in May through about anymore October-November. So this’ll be the time for that person to go out there and do all of this environmental, education, and outreach. Every other day, we’re getting calls, asking for programs.”
Scheuermann is looking forward to the new naturalist to build these programs from the ground up. He anticipates having someone hired and start in the next fiscal year on July 1st.
