With the main topics of the 2024 Iowa legislative session having been education related, some other bills didn’t get as much attention.

Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that she sponsored a bill that did make it to Governor Kim Reynolds’s desk, and that she hopes that Reynolds will sign it. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it would raise the price limits on fundraisers for certain groups.

“We had some non-profit folks coming to us saying that the limits on their fundraising for, say, Bingo or raffles were pretty low. And so they said, ‘Would you help us to try and increase those limits?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, yeah. That probably makes sense.’ Inflation happens, and those limits have been there a long time. And so we were able to increase the limits for some Bingo and raffles.”

Sinclair mentions that this really helps groups like Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited, as they may receive items like shotguns or rifles as a donation to use in a raffle or for a fundraiser, but because the firearm was worth more than they were allowed to fundraise for, they weren’t able to use it.
