Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center High School is ready to perform their spring musical this weekend.

AC/GC student Andrew Mahaffey says that the musical is based on a children’s book that was adapted into a Broadway show. He and Director Kelsey Dinkla mention that despite the quality of the musical, it was unfortunate that it opened on Broadway at the same time as Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton, which overshadowed it.

Mahaffey adds that the piece is very good despite its short life on the big stage. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio about what some of the key parts for the show are from his perspective.

“This is very special for all the seniors, being the last time together. So it’s a very emotional story, both has its highs and its lows, and I think we can all play into that because of just being with each other for the last four years. So that’s obviously a high point. But then also realizing the impact of your last performance together is also a very sad thing. So those are both, I think, key aspects of the story that we get to play into.”

The musical follows a young girl who has stumbled across a fountain of eternal youth, with the Tuck family serving as its guardians. Victoria Soto explains what she enjoys about the musical.

“I like the plot and just, I don’t know. I think it’s really funny, but it also tells a really good message, and all the characters are like, fully thought out.”

There are three performances that will be held in the auditorium at AC/GC High School. On Friday and Saturday, showings will begin at 7pm, and on Sunday at 2pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $8 for adults, and $5 for students.
