The West Central Valley School Board met in regular session Wednesday night.

The Board held a public hearing on the 2024-25 budget, approving a resolution to adopt the budget, and a budget guarantee resolution. They then entered into the regular session, hearing administrative reports including a review on the District Career and Academic Plan along with the resignation of Matt Pruitt effective tomorrow, as he will be moving out of his district. A notice will be published, and interested individuals will need to file to fill the vacancy by end of day May 13th, the Monday before the May regular meeting.

The Board then approved the hiring of Erin Franklin as an elementary teacher, and adjustment of hours for Andy McAtee and Brian Filloon for grounds support. They also approved the 2024-25 academic calendar, graduation list for the class of 2024, and a device rotation plan suggested by the district’s Information Technology team.

The Board approved a 2024-25 Area Education Agency purchasing agreement, and held the first reading of a Board policy for purchasing, bidding, suspension and debarment of vendors and contractors. They then entered into an exempt negotiations session, before discussing upcoming dates including a bid opening at 2pm on April 23rd, a special meeting on April 24th and the fiscal year 2024 budget amendment hearing and regular meeting on May 13th. Superintendent Rusty Shockley shares his thoughts on the meeting.

“I thought the meeting went very well. You know, we’re just starting to get things rolling to be prepared for the 24-25 school year. We adopted our calendar for next year. You know, there’s a purchasing agreement that we did, and we’re looking at a long term device rotation plan that approved our summer purchases for technology.”

Shockley says that one of the key points from the meeting was discussions on insurance during the administrative reports, especially regarding a claim for the middle school.
