Many people have already begun cleaning for the spring season, and a representative from the Dallas County Health Department shares ways to prevent common injuries.

Community Health Educator Natalie Peters tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it can be easy to pull muscles as people tend to use abnormal body movements compared to regular everyday movements. She highlights that taking time to stretch will help loosen muscles for getting outside for a walk, but also suggests making a plan beforehand.

“Injuries tend to happen when people overdo it and just try to get everything done in one day. Instead, plan ahead to space out chores over a few days or few weeks to reduce the impact on your body.”

Peters reiterates to use proper body mechanics when lifting heavy objects, and also to take breaks throughout the process to recover while rehydrating.
