Greene County high school’s track & field teams both competed in cool and windy conditions on Thursday night. The boys were at Saydel High School in Des Moines and the girls were in Le Grand at East Marshall High School.
Coach Derek Merk’s girls’ team was ninth among 14 teams. Greene County was led by junior Emma Ewalt in the discus throw with a best toss of 102′ 6,” good for second place. Junior Daniele Madsen was third in the shot put at 33′ 10″, and the 4 x 200 meter relay was clocked in 1:57.64, a season best, good for third place with sophomores Savanah Lansman, Lila Osterson, Addison Gannon, and Kaycee Pittman.
Coach Chad Morton’s boys’ team was tenth among 16 teams with 37.5 points. North Polk (Alleman) edged Madrid for the team title, 105.5 to 105. The highest finish for the Rams was second place. Junior Isaac Carman was second in the discus throw at 133′ 10,” and the distance medley relay was second in 3:41.84 with senior Trey Schilling, sophomore Broc Stream, sophomore Nick Madsen, and sophomore Drew Wolterman.
Next up for both the girls and boys is a Monday meet at home for the Ram Relays at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Starting time is 4:30 p.m.
