Iowa Representative David Young thinks the best people should be serving on boards and commissions regardless of their gender.
Governor Kim Reynolds recently signed Senate File 2096, repealing the requirement that state and local boards and commissions must have an equal balance of men and women. Young emphasizes that people shouldn’t be hired due to their gender, but rather based on performance.
“We want the best people out there who we work with. It doesn’t matter to me and it doesn’t matter to many Iowans whether they’re male or female, black or white, from rural areas, (or) from urban areas. What matters is are they qualified and can they perform the job effectively.”
Young explains that there are many women who are well represented on the boards and commissions. He says that there shouldn’t be segregation or discrimination on placement on the boards and commissions.
