After being postponed earlier this week, Greene County opened the girls’ golf season on Thursday at The Hill west of Grand Junction. Coach Heath Telleen watched his team shoot 209 for nine holes and finish in fourth place among four teams.
Gilbert won the event with 159 strokes, followed by 200 from Des Moines Christian, 204 for Perry, and the Rams anothor five strokes back. Coach Telleen said the score on Thursday was 30 strokes better than at any time a season ago. The Rams were led by Hallie Monthei at 46. Maya Telleen and Taylor Johnston each shot 52 with 59 from Alivia Cornell. All four shot their career low score. The coach added he was very proud of the girls and the pregress they’ve made.
Greene County’s boys’ golfers have a make up meet at 3:30 p.m. today with Carroll High at Jefferson Community Golf Course.
The Greene County Early Bird track & field meet is today starting at 4:30 p.m. at Linduska Field in Jefferson. There are 12 boys’s teams and nine girls’ teams scheduled to take part. That’s bigger than originally planned because others have joined the field due to meets being weathered out on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
