The Greene County High School soccer teams both faced the Carroll Tigers on Thursday. Carroll won the girls’ game at Linduska Field in Jefferson 5-1 and the Rams won the boys’ game at Carroll Athletic Field by the same 5-1 final.
Coach Carl Behne’s Rams improved to 3-0 while the Tigers fell to 1-2. The Rams scored twice in the first 5-1/2 minutes and led 3-0 at the half. The lone Carroll goal came on a penalty kick with less than 10 minutes remaining in the second half by Landon Petersen. the Rams had three goals from senior Gesser Gutierres and two from senior Nathan Behne. The Gutierres goals were his fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth of the season for the 3-0 Rams, and he now has 86 for his varsity career. Behne now his five goals this season. The Rams have out scored their opponents 23-4 and those two have scored all but one of the Greene County goals. Behne and freshman Blaise Schilling had assists vs. the Tigers. Senior Cody Allen played for the first time since suffering a serious knee injury playing football last September and undergoing surgery.
The Greene County girls, coached by Mariel Hernandez, scored a goal by senior Esther Van Horn, their first in matches this season. Carroll improved to 1-2 and they scored goals for the first time this season. Parker Adams scored four of the five Carroll goals. Emma Bernholtz had the other goal for the Tigers.
