Friday first responder teams will hold a mock accident at West Central Valley High School.

Stuart Police Sergeant and West Central Valley School Resource Officer Katie Guisinger says that on Monday she was part of a pre mock accident assembly to give topics for students to reflect on, with the main one being that choices can have consequences. She adds that teacher Sandi Hocamp was the guest speaker, and talked about an accident that took her daughter’s life shortly after she graduated 14 years ago.

On Friday, the student body at the high school will be dismissed at 10:25am to attend the mock accident, with the accident itself to be at 10:30am. Guisinger mentions that for the accident, they will have one individual pretending to be a drunk driver, while the other individual will be a distracted driver who was using their phone. The Stuart Police and Fire Departments, along with Stuart Rescue, Menlo Fire and Rescue, Dexter Fire and Rescue and the Redfield Fire Department will all be on hand to help with the mock accident in the gravel parking lot south of the sports complex. The event is not open to the public, but community members who see the large emergency response should not be alarmed.
