Weather permitting, Greene County will have its high school golf and soccer teams in action today.
Coach Heath Telleen’s girls’ golf squad is set to open their season today vs. the Carroll Tigers at Carroll Municipal Golf Course. Coach Kyle Kinne’s Greene County boys host Carroll High at Jefferson Community Golf Course. Starting time is 4 p.m. for both. The boys opened their season last Friday at Woodland Hills Course in an 18 hole tournament hosted by Saydel (Des Moines). Despite finishing seventh among nine teams, the Rams shot 328, lower than any 18 hole score they turned in last season.
The Rams have the Boone teams visiting for a girl/boy soccer doubleheader at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The girls play at 5:30 p.m. with the boys to follow. Coach Maribel Hernandez will watch her Rams open their season while Coach Carl Behne sends his 1-0 boys’ team into action. The boys were 7-2 winners in Jefferson last Thursday vs. Central Iowa United (West Marshall) with senior Gesser Gutierres recording six goals.
