Iowa Senator in the 14th District, Sarah Trone-Garriott, explains that the legislative session is in a budget mindset.

Trone-Garriott tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the session is in a period where it’s more aligned to the budget rather than policies. Specifically, she hints that the focus is how legislators are going to be spending taxpayer dollars. Trone-Garriott informs people that this is the time to contact legislators regarding important issues they want to share. She zeroes in on boards and commissions as being the other important area.

“There are all these folks who serve on boards and commissions to bring in that public voice for all kinds of issues from healthcare to public safety and different industries, and different kinds of services.”

Trone-Garriott illustrates that the governor is in charge of assigning people to not only boards and commissions but those who serve as directors for different departments. She emphasizes that the senate determines whether to approve these appointments, and reminds people that it’s critical to hear their concerns as well in order to make the best possible choice. Trone-Garriott says that the director of the department of education is a spot that needs to be addressed this year.
