The Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships are today and tomorrow and one ensemble from the Raccoon Valley Radio area is competing.
Greene County High School’s Ram Jive is going up against seven other Class 3A jazz choirs to see which school has the best ensemble in the state. Ram Jive has had a very successful season so far with getting a Division I-rating at the Iowa High School Music Association State Jazz Choir Festival, and a first place finish at a contest at North Polk High School. Junior Danielle Madsen sings soprano in Ram Jive and she shares her thoughts on how well they have performed this year.
“I think the year has gone great. It brings me great joy because I enjoy jazz choir and music. I think that we’re having a really great season and I hope that we perform really well.”
Sophomore Ella Ostrander talks about what she is looking forward to at the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships.
“I think that on Wednesday we’ll do very good. Pretty much like every other performance, we’re probably going to nail it, just because we know these songs so well, and we really jive along with it. We know how to have fun with it. And I think we’ll just do really good, either way.”
Ram Jive takes the stage at Waukee High School tomorrow at 1:35pm. The other high schools competing in Class 3A include Center Point-Urbana, Gilbert, Iowa Falls-Alden, Mount Vernon, North Polk, Solon and Spirit Lake.
