With the second funnel week having passed, there isn’t much left to do in the way of policy making in the Iowa Legislature.

Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen says that for many legislators the rest of the session is more of a hurry up and wait scenario, as the Appropriations and Ways and Means Committees get the bulk of their work started now that they’re beginning to receive the numbers they need to compile the state’s budget. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that there is one appropriations bill that has caught his eye, which pertains to the currently active submarine USS Iowa, and states wishes for a bill to go towards the USS Iowa of the past.

“You know, I’d love to see a bigger appropriation, and standing appropriation for our USS Iowa battleship that is docked out in San Francisco. It’s received a lot of damage. The deck boards are completely tore up, and they could use some help keeping that ship nice.”

Sorensen continues that the namesake of our state is a popular tourist attraction, and would like to see it in its best condition so others can enjoy it as well. He adds that besides that appropriations bill, there aren’t many others going through Appropriations and Ways and Means Committees that have piqued his interest.
