US Senator Joni Ernst recently introduced a bill to help gun dealers.

Ernst says that her Fighting Irrational Regulatory Enforcement to Avert Retailers’ Misfortune or FIREARM ACT, would keep gun dealers from facing major consequences for what amounts to a typo, and is a clerical error. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why she brought the bill forward.

“What we’ve seen is a number of gun dealers, if they accidentally put the wrong digit in or whatever it is, they make a minor mistake on the form. What President Biden and his ATF are trying to do is take away their licenses for honest mistakes. So again, this creates a safe harbor so that those gun dealers can go back and correct those mistakes, and again, these are innocent mistakes.”

Ernst continues that these clerical errors can be anything from missing a comma or placing a decimal point in an amount at the wrong place, to hitting one to many numbers. She adds that this is especially important for gun dealers in rural areas, as they may not have the resources at their disposal to double check work when they initially file it, and find a mistake at a later date.
