After completing the three meets of the indoor track & field season on March 16, Greene County High School’s girls and boys track & field teams go outside tomorrow at Indianola for the Simpson College High School Classic. Derek Merk is the girls’ head coach and Chad Morton is head coach of the boys. The weather forecast is favorable for the meet tomorrow, which would be the earliest start to an outdoor track & field season on record for Jefferson-based track & field teams.
The meet at Simpson College is a coed event with girls and boys from Indianola, Valley (West Des Moines), Knoxville, Norwalk, and Carlisle joining the Rams. Harlan Community’s boys are also scheduled to take part, meaning Greene County will clearly be the smallest school involved. Valley is the largest school in Iowa with an enrollment of more than 2,200 students in the top three grades, while the Rams have fewer than 300 students in their top three grades combined.
