Junior Riah Nelsen was dominant as he struck out 16 batters and walked none on Monday night and Greene County won in Colfax by a 3-1 final over Colfax-Mingo in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball. Nelsen did hit three batters with pitches during the complete game performance, and the Tigerhawks put together three bloop singles, and used an error to score and unearned run in the fifth inning. Nelsen fanned 11 of the first 12 batters he faced and he had a perfect game through four innings.
The Rams scored twice in the third inning and once in the sixth. Greene County benefited from three errors, a Nelsen SAC fly, and a passed ball to take a 2-0 lead. Daric Whipple singled in the third run for the Rams. Alex Rasmussen singled for the only other Greene County hit. C-M had four errors, while the Rams had just one. Greene County had other scoring chances, but the Rams left 10 runners on base, all in scoring position.
The win puts Greene County at 5-8 in the conference and 5-11 overall, while C-M fell to 2-11 in the HOIAC.
