Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks shares how the school’s response has been since returning to school following the January 4th shooting.
Superintendent Wicks says the Perry School District returned to school in late January with half days to ease the students and staff back into a normal routine. According to Wicks, the school board spent a lot of time deciphering when would be the best time to resume school after hearing feedback from the community, including staff members. Wicks uses one word to describe the process in which everyone has adjusted.
“Momentum. And I think our staff, students, (and) community have done a tremendous job of getting used to a new normal, or getting to a new normal, and demonstrating that resiliency after that horrific tragedy.”
Wicks pinpoints that the growth from the last two months in returning people to a normal schedule has helped create a new structure. He believes that the school district is heading in the right direction. The school district plans to return to full days of school this coming Monday.
