A Greene County man was involved in a boating accident in Boone County this past weekend.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials say around 7pm Saturday night, 42 year-olds Christian Whitney of Rippey and Kevin Davis of Johnston were operating their personal water crafts on the Des Moines River near Highway 30, west of the City of Boone, when their PWC’s hit an obstruction in the water causing them both to sustain injuries.
They were transported to the Boone County Hospital and Davis was later taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Their current conditions are unknown at this time.
DNR authorities report that both victims were wearing life jackets which likely saved their lives after being thrown into the river from the collision.
A third person in the group, 30 year-old Alexander Goodburn of Ankeny was not involved in the collision but was arrested for boating while intoxicated and he was booked into the Boone County Jail.
The DNR was assisted by the Boone County Sheriff’s office and the Boone Police Department. An investigation is ongoing by the DNR into what the obstruction was that caused the collision.
